FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers about timing, safety, weather, airspace, image rights and payment.

Booking and timing

How far in advance should I book?

Usually 2 to 7 days. If the property or site is in the controlled airspace of Jean-Lesage Airport, an authorization from NAV CANADA is also required. This authorization can take up to two weeks when NAV CANADA reviews the request manually. We send the request on the day you book.

When do I receive the images?

No later than 24 hours after the flight ends. You receive an email with a download link. If we take longer than 24 hours, you do not pay for the session.

Download the files as soon as you receive them: the link's expiry date is written in the delivery email.

What area do you serve?

Québec City, Lévis, L'Ancienne-Lorette, Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Cap-Rouge, Sainte-Foy, Charlesbourg, Beauport, Stoneham, Lac-Beauport, Île d'Orléans and nearby areas.

Outside this area, travel fees are written in the quote, before any booking.

Safety and regulations

Can you fly near Jean-Lesage Airport?

Several parts of Québec City are in the controlled airspace of Jean-Lesage International Airport, for example around L'Ancienne-Lorette, Sainte-Foy and Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures.

In these areas, a drone flight requires a drone pilot certificate for advanced operations and an authorization from NAV CANADA, requested through the NAV Drone app. We never fly without this authorization.

If NAV CANADA refuses or does not answer in time, we offer another date or we cancel. In both cases, you pay nothing.

What rules apply to drone flights?

Drone flights in Canada are governed by Part IX of the Canadian Aviation Regulations, enforced by Transport Canada. We fly only when these three conditions are met:

  • the pilot holds the drone pilot certificate required for that type of flight;
  • the drone is registered with Transport Canada;
  • liability insurance is in force.

You can ask for a copy of these documents before booking.

William's commercial airplane pilot licence does not replace the drone pilot certificate.

How do you prepare each flight?

Before each flight, we check:

  • the airspace class and the required authorizations;
  • published temporary restrictions (NOTAM);
  • the weather: wind, rain, snow, visibility and temperature;
  • the condition of the drone, propellers and batteries, with a written checklist;
  • people, roads and buildings around the site.

During the flight, the pilot keeps the drone in sight and keeps a distance from people who are not part of the operation.

Weather and rescheduling

What happens if it rains or it is windy?

We do not fly in rain, snow, fog or strong wind. We check the weather the day before and the morning of the flight.

If conditions are not good, we email you to offer a new date. Rescheduling is always free.

Can you fly in winter?

Yes, when temperature, wind and visibility allow it. Cold weather shortens battery life, so we bring spare batteries. A snow-covered property shows the lot less clearly: for a winter listing, we discuss it with you before booking.

Images and rights

Can I publish the images on Centris, Realtor.ca and social media?

Yes. You can use the images to market the property or project: listings, social media, website, print advertising. Copyright stays with Drone Photo Québec. For any other use, for example reselling the images to a third party, write to us first.

Do you need the owner's and neighbours' consent?

The property owner must agree to the session. For a listing, the broker confirms this consent when booking.

We frame the images on the property. We avoid photographing recognizable people. If a neighbour asks, we blur or remove any image where their property is visible up close.

Do you take interior photos?

No. We only take aerial images. We can work with your usual real estate photographer on the same day.

Is the lot-line photo an official document?

No. The lines are drawn from the certificate of location or cadastral plan you provide. It is a marketing illustration. It is not a survey document.

Payment

How does payment work?

No payment on the website. You receive the invoice after the images are delivered. Payment by Interac e-Transfer or bank transfer, within 15 days.

There is no online payment on the website, because you pay only after you have received and accepted the images.

How does the 6-month commitment for the Construction package work?

You pay for one flight per month for at least 6 months. The monthly price is invoiced after each delivery. After 6 months, you choose to continue or stop. The exact terms are written in the agreement you sign before the first flight.
